Pelosi Statement on Senate Passage of Permanent Authorization 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Pelosi issued this statement after the Senate overwhelmingly passed the "Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer & Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund Act":
"On September 11, our nation suffered loss we could not imagine and witnessed heroism we will never forget. On that day of horror, our brave first responders were there for us – and now, with this bipartisan and bicameral bill, the Congress is here for them.
"We salute Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Chairman Jerry Nadler and the Members and outside mobilizers who have fought relentlessly to take this step to provide the financial security and support that 9/11 heroes, survivors and families deserve. This strong permanent reauthorization honors our responsibility to ensure that all people suffering from illnesses related to 9/11 or by the debris removal and clean-up efforts in their aftermath and their families get the full awards they have been promised.
"The President must immediately sign this legislation, so that we can honor the sacrifice of James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, Luis Alvarez and all our 9/11 heroes, and bring help and healing to those in need."
