Pelosi Statement on the Passing of Emilie Brzezinski

July 25, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the passing of Emilie Brzezinski:

"The passing of Emilie Brzezinski – a gifted sculptor, proud immigrant and loving matriarch of a family of American patriots – is a loss for all who loved her and for our country.

"An artist at heart and a master of her craft, Emilie spent decades celebrating nature's mesmerizingly imperfect beauty: wielding axes, chainsaws and chisels to transform towering tree trunks into awe-inspiring sculptures. After her family fled the horrors of World War II in Europe, it was here in America where she would meet her beloved husband, Zbigniew, and they would instill in their three children a deep love for their country. Each has carried on the Brzezinski legacy of patriotism: standing up for liberty, security and Democracy in our nation. Through their invaluable work and her stunning creations, Emilie leaves behind a legacy that will be felt for many years to come.

"Personally, I had deep respect and admiration for Emilie and Zbigniew, with whom I shared a warm friendship. May it be a comfort to Ian, Mark, Mika and their entire family that so many mourn their loss and are praying for them at this sad time."
