Pelosi Statement on Signing of Bill to Improve Post 9/11 GI Benefits

"Nine years ago, the Democratic Congress enacted the Post-9/11 GI bill, the most sweeping veterans benefit and education law in generations.  Today, we expand on those historic protections, and further strengthen the ability of courageous men and women in uniform and their families to thrive.

"It was my deep honor to cosponsor this bill, which improves existing benefits, closes gaps in eligibility and expands opportunities for Reservists, Guardsmen, Purple Heart recipients and surviving spouses and dependents.  This legislative victory was made possible by the tireless advocacy of our veterans service organizations, who helped craft and carry this bill to the finish line.  Our Caucus also commends the stalwart leadership of Ranking Member Tim Walz and Committee Democrats for their relentless commitment to getting this bill right, ensuring its success will not come at the expense of our veterans and troops, or other critical initiatives.

"Democrats will continue to hold the Trump Administration accountable for diverting resources and care away from the VA and for trying to diminish the vital initiatives our veterans and their families rely on.  As thousands of servicemembers continue to transition into civilian life each year, Democrats will not rest until veterans no longer sleep on the street, their benefits are expedient and transparent and they receive high quality, timely care at every VA facility.  Just as the military leaves no one behind on the battlefield, we must leave no veteran behind when they come home."
