Speaker Ryan Isn't Done Carrying Water for President Trump

August 21, 2017
In the first eight months of President Trump's unproductive presidency, it seems like Speaker Ryan has mastered the art of defending the president and/or remaining passive on his absurd tweets and policies.

Tonight is Speaker Ryan's CNN Town Hall, and this is our question for him: Why do you consistently fail to hold President Trump accountable?  Below are some examples of how the ‘weak-kneed' Speaker of the House has spent the past year justifying Trump's lies and deflecting from the truth.

On President Trump and GOP's lack of legislative accomplishments

Speaker Ryan: "Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah is what I say about that stuff.  This is what I call the white noise of Washington-Beltway media.  We're busy doing our work."

On President Trump's inappropriate exchanges with former FBI Director James Comey –

Speaker Ryan: "He's new to government."

On President Trump's threats to fire AG Sessions because he recused himself from the Russia investigation –

Speaker Ryan: "That's his prerogative."

On White House turmoil

Speaker Ryan: "I don't worry about things that are outside of my control."

On President Trump's reckless border wall proposal –

Speaker Ryan: "It is time for the wall."

On President Trump's ban of transgender troops from serving in U.S. military –

Speaker Ryan: "I clearly had concerns about having the Pentagon have to pay for all of these surgeries."

On President Trump's immoral travel ban

Speaker Ryan: "What is happening is something we support … we need to make sure that the vetting standards are up to snuff."

On President Trump's flurry of tweets

Speaker Ryan: "They're growing on me … He is giving voice to people who feel they haven't been listened to in this country and I think that's an amazing thing and I think that's largely what he is able to accomplish with Twitter."

On President Trump's lies on Twitter

Speaker Ryan: "It doesn't matter to me.  He won the election."
