Dear Democratic Colleague,

Every day, the American people are confronted with a GOP Congress and Administration that has taken every opportunity to stack the deck for the wealthy and well-connected against hard-working families.  Americans across the country are paying the price for the GOP's disastrous special interest policies – from the Republicans' cynical health care sabotage, to the massive, unpaid for GOP Tax Scam for the rich, to gutting critical protections for the air our children breathe and the water they drink.

The American people deserve a government that works For The People.  As part of our For The People agenda we are committed to taking strong action in a Democratic Majority:

  • Lowering health care costs and prescription drug prices;
  • Increasing workers' pay through strong economic growth by rebuilding America; and
  • Cleaning up corruption to make Washington work for you.

Under President Trump, Republican-controlled Washington has abandoned hard-working Americans and become a cesspool of self-enrichment, secret money and ethical blindness, evidenced by the recent indictments of President Trump's first two supporters in Congress, Congressman Collins and Congressman Hunter.  House Republicans are now wallowing in the swamp that they have enabled and deepened at the expense of working families everywhere.

While House Republicans enrich themselves and their special interest cronies, they continue to turn a blind eye to the corruption and criminality at the heart of President Trump's inner circle, and are working relentlessly to undermine Special Counsel Mueller and the FBI.  Yesterday's conviction of Trump Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort and guilty plea of President Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, show that the Special Counsel's team and the prosecutors in New York are conducting thorough and professional investigations, and they must be allowed to continue free from interference.  Republicans must end their complicity, join Democrats in protecting Special Counsel Mueller and affirm that no one is above the law.

Michael Cohen's admission to making illegal campaign contributions "at the direction of the candidate" to influence the 2016 election, implicates President Trump in a federal crime and raises serious questions regarding the motive behind his continued attacks against the Department of Justice.  We must join Ranking Member Jerry Nadler in calling on Chairman Goodlatte to immediately investigate the President's relentless assaults on the FBI and the Special Counsel.

It is our duty as Members of Congress to seek the truth, and hold the President and his Administration accountable to the American people, and we will.  As November rapidly approaches, we must also stay focused on delivering our strong economic message to hard-working families across America that we are fighting For The People: working to lower health care costs and prescription drug prices, increasing workers' pay through strong economic growth by rebuilding America, and cleaning up corruption to make Washington work.

Thank you all for your continued leadership and for working tirelessly on behalf of the American people.

best regards,
