Transcript of Pelosi Remarks Ahead of Meeting with Malaysia Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Speaker Nancy joined the Prime Minister of Malaysia for a Photo Opportunity as part of the U.S. Congressional delegation to the Indo-Pacific region. Below are the Speaker's remarks:

Speaker Pelosi. Good afternoon, everyone. As Speaker of the House, it is my great honor to be received here at – Prime Minister, His Excellency and by so many ministers as well as by the Speaker of the House.

We had the privilege of welcoming the Speaker and the – excuse me, His Excellency, the Prime Minister, to the Capitol, as well as the Foreign minister, in the spring. And now it is our honor to be received here.

Our mission – I'm here with my colleagues, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Mr. Greg Meeks, the Chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee Mr. Takano, the Vice Chair of the Ways and Means Committee Congresswoman Suzan DelBene, Congress – a Member of the Intelligence Committee Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, and – where is he? – here we are – and a Member of Foreign Affairs and Armed Services, as well as a former member of the State Department, our Member – from New Jersey, Andy Kim.

So again, we have a high-powered delegation. We come to hear from you, to learn from you, to pay our respects, to share our values and to collaborate more closely. Malaysia is very important. We've had over 60 years of relationship between the United States and Malaysia. We value that relationship. We come to you to, as I said, pay our respects and learn about security, how we work together on security, on economic prosperity, on governance: whether it's COVID, whether it's climate change, many issues that we share, discussed at a meeting with the Speaker.

So, Mr. – Your Excellency, thank you. It's an honor to be welcomed by you. It was an honor to welcome you to the Capitol.
