Pelosi Announces New Committee Assignments

September 13, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced today that the House Democratic Steering & Policy Committee has recommended that Congressman Joseph Morelle serve on the House Committee on Appropriations, that Congresswoman Mary Peltola serve on the House Committee on Natural Resources and that Congressman Pat Ryan serve on the House Armed Services Committee.

"Congressman Joseph Morelle is a skilled legislator and deeply respected leader in our House Democratic Caucus," Speaker Pelosi said. "Since joining the House, he has been a relentless champion for Monroe County – working to slash kitchen table costs and expand opportunity for Upstate New York families. With decades of legislative experience at the local, state and federal levels, Congressman Morelle will bring invaluable insight to the House Committee on Appropriations as he helps advance Democrats' fight to lower costs, create better-paying jobs and build safer communities."

"The first Alaska Native to serve in the House, Congresswoman Mary Peltola has already proven a strong, pioneering voice for her state," Speaker Pelosi continued. "Congresswoman Peltola started working aboard her father's fishing vessel at just six years old, and she has been a relentless defender of Alaska's magnificent natural beauty ever since – as an advocate, as a state legislator and now in the halls of Congress. Bringing her lifelong passion to the House Committee on Natural Resources – the Committee her predecessor once chaired – she will continue working to empower indigenous communities, protect Alaska's salmon runs and fuel prosperity for working families."

"Congressman Pat Ryan comes to the House having served as an Army intelligence officer and as a long-time advocate for America's veterans – both in and out of office," Speaker Pelosi continued. "A graduate of West Point and a decorated veteran of two combat tours in Iraq, Congressman Ryan's life of service reflects his deep-seated belief in duty. Our nation's heroes in uniform will be well-served by his energetic, devoted leadership on the House Armed Services Committee."

The recommendations will now go to the full Democratic Caucus for approval.
