Pelosi Statement on Passage of Continuing Resolution
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement following the passage in the House of a Continuing Resolution to extend federal government funding through November 21 and avoid a government shutdown by a vote of 301-123:
"Today, the House of Representatives fulfilled its constitutional responsibility by passing a Continuing Resolution, so that we can continue our work to meet the needs of the people whom we are privileged to represent.
"This summer, our Democratic Majority proudly passed our appropriations bills, which made smart, strong investments in the health, financial security and well-being of the American people. Yet, sadly, the Republican Senate failed to introduce a single appropriations bill for the first time in more than three decades. The CR that the House passed today is essential to avoiding another devastating government shutdown, and averts economic disaster for countless families by extending funding for critical health initiatives, including for Community Health Centers, Teaching Health Centers, our 9/11 heroes and their families, and federal medical assistance for Puerto Rico and the territories. And for the countless American farmers suffering from President Trump's unending trade war, this CR ensures the timely assistance and payments that these hard-working Americans rely on, while strengthening transparency and accountability of the Trump Administration.
"House Democrats remain committed to advancing key priorities for American families as we continue to fight For The People. Now, the Senate must quickly pass a clean CR and allow Congress to move forward with our important work on behalf of the American people."
