Pelosi Statement on Rosh Hashanah

September 7, 2018
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement in recognition of Rosh Hashanah beginning at sundown on Sunday, September 9th:

"On Rosh Hashanah, Jews across the country and around the world gather together to celebrate the blessings of a new year.  These High Holy Days offer a time to reflect on the year that's been, contemplate the joys and troubles of the present and look forward with hope for the future.

"Inspired by this time of reflection and renewal, all Americans can look back on the past year, and be reminded of our shared responsibility to stand united against intolerance, fear and acts of hate.  While we recognize the grave challenges we face as a nation, we know that the troubles of today will spur all of us to action in the year ahead – to honor our heritage as a nation of immigrants, to boldly combat the climate crisis, to fight grievous attacks on women, communities of color and LGBTQ individuals, and restore a government of, by and for the people.  Americans have always been defined by our generosity and resilient spirit.  We must now seize this moment to embrace our diversity as a source of strength, and build a world at peace for our children to grow and thrive.

"My best wishes for a sweet, happy and prosperous new year – Shana tovah u'metukah."
