CBO projects long-term troop presence in Iraq could be costly

The Congressional Budget Office released estimates Thursday showing that the cost of a long-term United States troop presence in Iraq, similar to the U.S. commitment in South Korea, could reach $2 trillion or more in 2008 dollars.

Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel responded today:

"As a direct result of President Bush's misguided choices, America is mired in an endless occupation in Iraq. If the President has his way, our children will be paying the price to police the streets in Baghdad for the next four decades."
