Appropriations Defense Subcommittee Hearing on Contracting

The Appropriations Defense Subcommittee will be holding a hearing at 10:00, "Contracting Out." Robert Greenwald, who has done a great deal of work on contractors and fraud in Iraq, will be testifying. Rep. Jim Moran, who is presiding over the hearing, gives opening remarks:

Rep. Moran:

"Some abuse results from unscrupulous practices that have resulted in criminal charges or sanctions. And of course in the beginning of our entry into Iraq, it was a cash economy, and a cash economy is very difficult to operate in a way that is beyond reproach and can be held accountable subsequently."

Robert Greenwald:

"In my research, we were also pained to discover the role of private, for-profit contractors in the tragedy that we all know as Abu Ghraib..."
