Bipartisan Immigration Reform: 'Yanked Back' by Speaker Boehner and GOP Extremists
November 6, 2014
Speaker Boehner had an interesting interaction during his press conference with a reporter earlier today on the issue of immigration:
Reporter. …on immigration…your conservative Members yanked you back. How can you…Speaker Boehner. No, no, no…what held us back last year was a flood of kids coming to the border…
Really, Mr. Speaker? Here's a recap:
- You abandoned the so-called GOP "immigration standards";
- You ignored the overwhelming support CIR has had across the country – and across party lines;
- You denied the bipartisan immigration reform legislation overwhelmingly passed by the Senate nearly 500 days ago;
- You rejected the calls from religious organizations fighting for its passage; agriculture groups urging immediate action; and hundreds of business groups advocating for reform;
- You continuously flip-flopped and created new excuses;
- You and your extremist Members voted more than FIVE times to block bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform – includingrepeatedlysubjecting our nation's DREAMers to deportation;
- And in fact, editorials across the country rejected your excuses.
In your own words: when are you going to "take responsibility for something?"
