CNN Poll: 68 Percent of Americans Believe GOP is Uncooperative

A new CNN poll released today concludes 68 percent of Americans believe Republicans in Congress are not doing enough to cooperate with President Obama.  This poll comes at a crucial time when congressional Republicans have a long list of overdue items to address before leaving for the holidays, including…

…keeping the government running into the new year, renewing expired tax breaks for individuals and businesses and approving a defense policy measure that has passed for more than 50 years in a row.  They hope to get it all done in two weeks without stumbling into a government shutdown.

Also pending are President Barack Obama's requests for money to combat Islamic State militants, battle Ebola and deal with an influx of unaccompanied Central American children who have crossed into the U.S…Among the lower profile items on the agenda are renewing the government's terrorism risk insurance program and extending the ban on state and federal taxes on access to the Internet…Legislation to renew the government's terrorism risk insurance program, which expires at year's end, is eagerly sought by the construction, real estate and hospitality businesses.  But negotiations…appear to have stalled. The program serves as a backstop in the event of a terrorist act that causes more than $100 million in losses.  [12/1]

These Republicans in Congress – who one year ago shut down the federal government for 16 days, costing our economy $24 billion and 120,000 jobs – would rather continue their vendetta with President Obama, who's shown strong leadership to help fix our broken immigration system, and threaten another #GOPshutdown:

• Proposing a so-called "CROmnibus" that only deepens their toxic culture of crisis and confrontation.
• Endangering our national security by not fully funding Homeland Security appropriations and critical operations as border security, security on our airlines, and security on our trains and mass transit.

It's time for them to put aside their partisan, reckless and political games and pass the Middle Class Jumpstart agenda for the American people.
