Cruz Hints at ANOTHER Government Shutdown Showdown
September 9, 2014
Earlier today at an anti-immigrant press conference alongside extreme far-right Members of the Tea Party, Canadian-born Senator Cruz made a bold, yet dangerous ultimatum to the continuing resolution: attach language terminating the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) – hinting, yet again, a Republican Government Shutdown. From The Hill:
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Tuesday that legislation to freeze President Obama's executive order deferring the deportations of illegal immigrants who come the country at a young age should be attached to a stopgap spending measure.
Setting up a possible confrontation over the funding measure that would keep government open beyond September, Cruz declined to rule out opposing the stopgap if it allows the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program to continue.
What have the radical voices done?
- Orchestrated the Republican Government Shutdown of 2013, closing the government for 16 days at a cost of $24 billionto our economy;
- Voted to sue the President of the United States, creating a pathway for impeachment;
- Continuously threaten to impeach the President;
- Threatened to terminate the Export-Import Bank;
- Threetimesvoted, and passed, drastic legislation that risks the lives of our nation's DREAMers through deportations – including the most recent legislation highly influenced and steered by Senator Cruz.
And now we have this.
Speaker Boehner, now, more than ever, Americans need a government that works for them, that jumpstarts the middle class. It's time to get serious and denounce such ridiculous talk.
