Cutting Government Waste
Requires federal agencies to assess agency performance on a quarterly basis to ensure federal taxpayer dollars are being spent in an effective manner.Increases the transparency and accountability of government by requiring that each federal agency submit performance assessments to determine the effectiveness in meeting established high-priority goals that have a direct benefit to the American people.
Makes assessment reports publicly available to both Congress and the American people so that they have critical information on federal agencies' strengths and weaknesses.
Speaker Pelosi on passage:
Today, the House continued its commitment to fiscal discipline by passing legislation to ensure responsible budgeting, and effective, efficient government. This bill gives lawmakers more tools to make informed decisions, produce better results for the American people, and invest in initiatives that work. The Government Efficiency, Effectiveness and Performance Act follows in the footsteps of statutory PAYGO legislation signed into law earlier this year. I commend Congressman Henry Cuellar and the Blue Dogs for their leadership in passing this critical measure.
