Evangelical Groups to House Republican Conference: Pass Immigration Reform Now!

Advocacy groups, editorial boards, and a majority of Americans across the country, Republicans and Democrats alike – all overwhelmingly agree that the time is now for comprehensive immigration reform.  Numerous polls, even from Republican polling firms, consistently show broad-based support for comprehensive immigration reform.  And today, this is what The Evangelical Immigration Table had to say:

"After thousands of hours of work, reaching millions of evangelical Christians across our nation, the evidence proves America is ready for commonsense immigration reform. 

"With all due respect, it is time to decide…As part of our work with the Evangelical Immigration Table, we have repeatedly asked Congress…to pass legislation in this Congress…

"The time has come to finish the job! We need your leadership to bring this about. You have the opportunity to solve one of our country's most pressing issues in a way that strengthens our nation and brings us together. The cost of inaction on immigration reform is too great.

"Please don't let the vocal opposition of a few prevent you from acting…"

Will the House Republican Conference listen and act in a commonsense, bipartisan manner?  Or, will the extreme right wing of their party continue to pursue an anti-immigrant agenda that's woefully out of touch with the country?  The time to act is now, Mr. Speaker.
