At 10:00 the Foreign Affairs Committee will hold a hearing: "Iraq: Is Reconstruction Failing?" Stuart W. Bowen, Jr., Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, will testify.
| Chairman Tom Lantos: "The maternity hospital in Northern Iraq. The $6.8 million project tries to convert a dilapidated hospital into a modern, state-of-the-art medical facility. Today, the backed-up drainage system spews disgusting water through many of the hospital's flood drains. Water contaminated by used syringes, drug viles, and bandages. An incinerator necessary for medical waste disposal lies idle, because the workers initially trained to operate it are no longer employed by the hospital..." |
