Well, Speaker Boehner and House Republicans did it. Today is day one of the Republican Government Shutdown.

While House Republican leader Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) went on FOX News this morning to cheer the GOP shutdown – polls show the American people feel differently:

QUINNIPIAC

American voters oppose 72 - 22 percent Congress shutting down the federal government to block implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

As the Washington Post's Greg Sargent points out in the Quinnipiac Poll:

55 percent of Americans blame the gridlock in Washington on Congressional Republicans determined to block any of the President's initiatives – including 51 percent of independents and 63 percent of moderates.

CNN

68 percent of Americans say shutting down the federal government even for a few days is a bad thing for the country.

The American people understand. Why don't House Republicans listen?
