GOP Keeps the 'No Jobs' Streak Alive
Politico – GOP grumbles about jobs plan…behind the scenes, some Republicans are becoming worried about giving Obama any victories — even on issues the GOP has supported in the past.
And despite public declarations about finding common ground with Obama, some Republicans are privately grumbling that their leaders are being too accommodating with the president.
"Obama is on the ropes; why do we appear ready to hand him a win?" said one senior House Republican aide who requested anonymity to discuss the matter freely. "I just don't want to co-own the economy by having to tout that we passed a jobs bill that won't work or at least won't do enough."…
"To assume that we're naturally for these things because we've been for them does not mean we will be for them if they cause debt, if they [have] tax increases and if they take money from the free-enterprise sector, which creates jobs," said Texas Rep. Pete Sessions, who heads up the House Republican campaign arm. [9/11]
President Obama has offered the American Jobs Act—a clear path forward to put the country back to work, help small businesses succeed and hire, provide tax relief for our workers, and rebuild America—with proposals that should look familiar to Republicans. And it is fully paid for.
Fox News – Most of Obama's Jobs Proposals Have Drawn GOP Support in the PastPresident Obama is pitching his newly unveiled $450 billion jobs plan in large part by arguing that all the proposed tax cuts and spending measures have won bipartisan support in the past.
"Now, everything in the American Jobs Act, everything in there is the kind of proposal that's been supported in the past by both Democrats and Republicans," the president told a friendly audience on House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's home turf Friday at the University of Richmond.
Indeed, most of the proposals have drawn support from some Republicans and a few were even hatched by them. [9/10]
It's time for the GOP to put politics aside and work with President Obama to put the country back to work. The American people simply can't wait.
