GOP Majority Leader Admits What Benghazi Committee is All About
Here's the exchange:
Rep. McCarthy. …What you're going to see is a conservative speaker, that takes a conservative Congress, that puts a strategy to fight and win. And let me give you one example. Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping….no one would have known any of that had happened, had we not fought and made that happen.
Sean Hannity. I agree…I'll give you credit where credit is due.
Mr. McCarthy's admission that the Benghazi Committee was created as a political attack on Mrs. Clinton, as POLITICO reported, is "a bit too far" and the media is taking note.
MSNBC: GOP leader accidentally tells the truth about Benghazi committee
The Hill: McCarthy linksBenghazi committee to Clinton's polling
Bloomberg: McCarthy Says BenghaziPanelHelped Drive Down Clinton's Numbers
Roll Call: Kevin McCarthy Gives Boehner B-, Credits Benghazi Committee for Hurting Hillary Clinton's Poll Numbers
POLITICO: "…When touting examples of leadership within his party, he pointed to Clinton's dropping poll numbers, crediting the Benghazi Select Committee for the change."
House Republicans were never interested in a bipartisan investigation to improve the security of Americans abroad. They've only been interested in pure extremist political theater. Leader McCarthy: the American people don't want more politically-motivated "select committees" – not to smear presidential candidates, and not to assault women's health. They want real leadership to confront the challenges we face as a nation.
