GOP Myths About Bill to Save Teacher, Police, Firefighter and Nurse Jobs

Next week, the House will vote on legislation that will create and save good-paying American jobs, close tax loopholes that send American jobs overseas, reduce the deficit, and is fully paid-for. The most outrageous claims Republicans are making about the bill:

Congressional Republicans are claiming this bill will go to "special interests"--demeaning hard-working Americans who teach our children and protect our communities.

FACT: The legislation will save and create 290,000 American jobs (140,000 teacher jobs saved and 150,000 jobs created or saved, including police officers, firefighters and nurses).

FACT: These funds are needed immediately to prevent layoffs or actually rehire teachers and prevent law enforcement officers from losing their jobs.

Congressional Republicans are claiming that this bill is being paid for by a "job-killing tax hike," ignoring the truth that the bill helps keep American jobs here at home. In fact, Republicans trying to protect these costly corporate loopholes are actually the ones working for the "special interests."

FACT: The bill is completely paid for, in part by closing tax loopholes that encourage corporations to ship American jobs overseas.

Congressional Republicans are claiming this bill will add to the deficit.

FACT: The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office(CBO) finds the legislation will cut the deficit by $1.4 billion over 10 years.

Democrats are committed to moving America forward--creating good-paying American jobs and providing tax-cuts for the middle-class. We are not going back.
