House Democrats: Fighting for the Ex-Im Bank and American Jobs

Last week, Republicans decided once again to turn their backs on American workers and American businesses trying to compete and succeed in the global marketplace – recessing without acting to extend the charter of the Export-Import Bank, putting at risk the thousands of jobs it supports across the country.

But while Republicans chose to deal another unnecessary blow to our economy that strikes tonight at midnight, House Democrats have been fighting to renew the Ex-Im Bank, to level the playing field for American workers, and keep America Number One in the global economy.

TRNS – Dem Leaders: Economic Crisis Lurks if Ex-Im Bank is not Renewed

Rep. Debbie Dingell: Heritage – Dingell hears from small business owners concerned if Export-Import Bank expires

"As I left Ann Arbor today, Polytorx Founder Luke Pinkerton told me that he doesn't know what he will do if the Export-Import Bank is not renewed," said Dingell. "Congress is threatening tools that help small businesses succeed in this economy. As we're talking about international trade policy, one of the most important things we can do is help manufacturers sell products overseas and create jobs at home. The Export-Import Bank provides critical financing that levels the playing field for American businesses and supports job creation without adding a dime to the deficit."

Rep. Louise Slaughter: Democrat & Chronicle – Slaughter wants Export-Import Bank renewed

"On Monday, U.S. Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-Fairport, called a news conference at Lumetrics to highlight what could happen at the end of this month if the charter for the Export-Import Bank is not renewed by Congress before June 30."

Rep. Bill Pascrell: North Jersey – North Jersey businesses say loss of Export-Import bank will cost them

"It's a critical tool that lets our manufacturers compete in the foreign markets and create jobs in New Jersey," Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr., D-Paterson, said.

Rep. Cheri Bustos: State Journal-Register – Rodney Davis and Cheri Bustos: Reauthorize, reform Ex-Im Bank

"In our two Illinois districts, the Export-Import Bank authorized just under $1.3 billion in financing for exports to other countries since 2007 and supported more than 40 exporters — again, at no cost to hardworking taxpayers."

Rep. Brian Higgins: Niagara Frontier Publications – Higgins urges reauthorization of Export-Import Bank

Congressman Brian Higgins, D-NY-26, spoke on the Floor of the House of Representatives calling for Congress to renew the charter for the Export-Import Bank, an agency with a mission of "supporting American jobs by facilitating the export of U.S. goods and services."

Reps. Pete Aguilar and Norma Torres: San Bernardino Sun – Inland Empire members of House back continuation of export bank

"This is a loan guarantee program, so this provides an added layer of certainty for Inland Empire businesses who are exporting, and the loss of that, I'm concerned, doesn't allow us to be competitive in that space," Aguilar said.

Rep. Norma Torres, D-Ontario, said the House leadership's failure to reauthorize the charter needlessly puts jobs at risk.

The bank, she said, has created or sustained 1.7 million private-sector jobs since 2007 with zero taxpayer cost.

Rep. Tammy Duckworth: eNews Park Forest – Congresswoman Duckworth: Irresponsible for Congress to Recess without Long Term Ex-Im Bank Reauthorization

"The Export-Import Bank supported more than 40 businesses and over 1,700 jobs in my Congressional district over the last 6 years," said Duckworth. "It's one of the reasons why Illinois is the 5th largest exporting state in the country."

As Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said:  "Once again, the Republican Leadership has chosen to blow past another vital deadline – once again endangering hundreds of thousands of American jobs and harming our ability to compete and succeed overseas…Washington Republicans should end their cycle of obstruction, dysfunction and distraction and join Democrats in building a better future for all hard-working Americans."
