Impact of Repealing Health Care Reform In Your Area

Today Rep. Waxman, Ranking Member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and Rep. Pallone released an analysis of the impact of the Republican repeal efforts on patients' rights, protections, and benefits contained in Affordable Care Act for all Congressional districts and the 30 largest metropolitan areas. For instance, in Ohio's 8th Congressional District, represented by Speaker Boehner, the analysis finds that repeal of the health reform law would have significant consequences on the citizens of OH-8:

Allowing insurance companies to deny coverage to 112,000 to 288,000 individuals, including 8,000 to 37,000 children, with pre-existing conditions.

Rescinding consumer protections for 427,000 individuals who have health insurance through their employer or the market for private insurance.

Eliminating health care tax credits for up to 11,600 small businesses and 161,000 families.

Increasing prescription drug costs for 7,700 seniors who hit the Part D drug "donut hole" and denying new preventive care benefits to 99,000 seniors.

Increasing the costs of early retiree coverage for up to 9,600 early retirees.

Eliminating new health care coverage options for 2,100 uninsured young adults.

Increasing the number of people without health insurance by 23,000 individuals.

Increasing the costs to hospitals of providing uncompensated care by $28 million annually.
