Judiciary Committee Hearings
House Judiciary Committee to Investigate Deceptive Election Practices(Washington, DC) - Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr. (D-M I) announced that the Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing, entitled, "Protecting the Right to Vote: Election Deception and Irregularities in recent Federal Elections." The hearing will be held TOMORROW, March 7, 2007 at 3 pm in 2141 Rayburn House Office Building.
"Election intimidation and deception have become an unfortuante aspect of recent federal elections, threatening to undermine Americans' confidence in a democratic government," Conyers said. "This hearing will expose some of the problems that voters have experienced, the causes of those problems, and offer leadership in developing meaningful solutions. Our goal is to protect every citizen's constitutional right to vote, and to thwart any future attempts to disenfranchise eligible voters through fraud, deception and intimidation."
Panel I will include Sen. Barack Obama (Ill), Sen. Ben Cardin (Md.), Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill), Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-CA), Rep. Peter King (R-IA), and Rep. Brian Bilbray (R-CA)
Panel II will include Ms. Donna Brazile, Chair, DNC Voting Rights Institute, Professor Eve Sandberg, Oberlin College, Mr. Ralph Neas, President and CEO, People for the American Way, and Mr. John Fund, Columnist, The Wall Street Journal.
