Leader McCarthy Provides Preview to 114th Congress: More Obstruction, Dysfunction & Distraction!

Earlier today, GOP Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy issued out a memo to Members of the Republican Conference, highlighting the new GOP manufactured crisis: undermine the crucial work of federal agencies in the 114th Congress. From POLITICO:

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy announced that streamlining government agencies will be a central goal in the new Congress.

In a memo sent to House Republicans Wednesday morning, McCarthy (R-Calif.) said that "restoring competence in government" will be a major focus of the GOP in the 114th Congress, which begins in January.

Restoring competence in government? This, from a GOP-led 113th part-time Congress that shut down the government for 16 days at a cost of $24 billion to our economy and 120,000 jobs. And on top of that, one that broke records: making the 113th Congress the historically-least productive and making the earliest departure from Congress to the campaign trail in 54 years.

Less than one month before the 2014 midterm elections, 14% of Americans approve of the way Congress is handling its job. This is unchanged from September….

If they want to restore competence in government, Speaker Boehner, Leader McCarthy and House Republicans would:

• Provide equal pay for equal work;
• Raise the minimum wage for millions of hardworking Americans;
• Provide paid sick leave;
• Create jobs by making investments to build roads and bridges;
• Pass comprehensive immigration reform;
• Extend unemployment benefits for millions of Americans who've lost their jobs through no fault of their own;
• Eradicate discrimination in the workplace by passing Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA).

It's time for Republicans to end their dysfunction and obstruction that continues to hurt America's hardworking families and middle class.
