Re: By the Numbers – Job-Creating Export-Import Bank House Republicans Are Jeopardizing
In less than 24 hours, 179 Members of Congress signed on a discharge petition demanding Speaker Boehner and House Republicans give the American people a vote on the Export-Import Bank's economic certainty! Let's quickly review additional numbers:
25 – Legislative days left until the Bank expires;
1.3 million – American jobs the Export-Import Bank has created since 2009;
164,000– American jobs the Bank has supported in FY 2014;
2– Times House Republicans have voted to block Democrats' efforts to reauthorize the Ex-Im Bank;
80 – American companies who've publicly called for the reauthorization;
$675 million – Amount by which the Bank reduced the federal deficit last year;
$6.9 billion – Federal deficit reduction by the Bank over the last two decades;
28 – Bipartisan Governors calling for reauthorization;
5 – U.S. Conference of Mayors leaders demanding reauthorization;
189 – House Democrats co-sponsoring the Promoting U.S. Jobs Through Exports Act of 2015 which reauthorizing the Bank;
60 – House Republicans who've also introduced a measure to extend the Bank's charter;
4 – House Republican leaders conflicted over how to proceed with the Export-Import Bank despite the risk of killing American jobs.
As Former Republican President Ronald Reagan famously said then: "Exports create and sustain jobs for millions of American workers and contribute to the growth and strength of the U.S. economy. The Export-Import Bank contributes in a significant way to our nation's export sales." [1/30/1984]. Mr. Speaker – it's time to end the uncertainty; you're the Speaker – bring this up for a vote!
