More than 50 Organizations to Speaker Ryan & House GOP: 'Say No' to the Anti-Immigrant Resolution

Speaker Ryan and the House Republican Conference are set to vote on an anti-immigrant resolution today.  But dozens of organizations are calling for its rejection, urging Members to vote against it.  As the letter says:

We urge you to speak up publicly against hate and vote against House Speaker Paul Ryan's resolution intended to stop President Obama's immigration executive actions.  Those executive actions represent the dreams and aspirations of millions of children, parents and families who have built lives here, who contribute to our economy and our communities, and who believe in the promise of America.  Once implemented, the president's executive actions will keep those families together and transform their lives.  In doing so, they will make our nation a better place to live for all of us.

Contrarily, the Speaker of the House wants to prevent that from happening.  He has announced plans to introduce a dream-crushing resolution authorizing the House of Representatives to file an amicus brief opposing Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) and expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) in the case pending before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. v. Texas.

DAPA would allow millions of parents of U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents to come out of the shadows, obtain temporary permission to remain in the United States, and apply for work authorization.  Expanded DACA would do the same for people who came here as children decades ago.  Joining Mr. Ryan's efforts to defeat these programs would not be a technical legal exercise.  Rather, it would be a clear signal to your constituents that you want the Supreme Court to derail their hopes.

We, the undersigned, urge you to stand with immigrant families by saying "no" to the resolution to file an official amicus brief opposing DAPA and expanded DACA before the Supreme Court.  We call on you to support President Obama's executive actions so that people with strong ties to our nation can continue to be part of their children's lives, our communities and this country.
