New ACA Report: 'Significant Decreases' in Uninsured
From Bloomberg:
Uninsured Rate Fell After Obamacare, U.S. Report ConfirmsObamacare cut the share of people in the U.S. without health insurance by two percentage points this year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a report today.
In the first three months of 2014, 18.4 percent of adults under age 65 lacked health insurance, down from 20.4 percent last year, according to the CDC survey. The fall in the uninsured rate was helped by 3.7 million people who bought private health insurance sold under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the CDC said.
"Between 2013 and the first three months of 2014, there were significant decreases in the percentages of persons who were uninsured at the time of interview among persons of all ages," according to the CDC report.
From POLITICO:
The CDC report also found a drop in the number of long-term uninsured, those who had been uninsured for more than a year. This applies to all age groups except children, with the largest improvement among young adults."For this measure of persistent lack of coverage, the largest decrease was for adults ages 19-25, from 19.8 percent in 2013 to 14.9 percent in the first 3 months of 2014," the report says.
Overall, CDC found that 165.6 million people had private health insurance. Among working-age adults, 17.1 percent had public health insurance, 65.6 percent had private coverage, and 18.4 percent were uninsured.
It's no wonder Republicans in Congress have gone from mentioning "Obamacare" 2,753 times in September 2013 to now a merely 27 times in September 2014. The GOP should stop trying to dismantle, repeal and undermine the nation's health care law – and work with Democrats to ensure millions more gain affordable, quality coverage.
