New Data: Uninsured Rates at Record Lows Thanks to ACA
June 6, 2014
A new Gallup poll released this week underscores what we've known all along: the Affordable Care Act works. Americans are getting quality health coverage – and the numbers prove it, with uninsured rates plummeting unexpectedly to record lows across demographic groups.
Here are some highlights, since the fourth quarter of 2013:
- Uninsured rates among 26-34 year olds dropped by 4.3 points
- Uninsured rates among Hispanics fell by 5.6 points;
- Uninsured rates among those earning less than $36,000 dropped by 6.0 points;
- And, uninsured rates among African Americans fell by 6.2 points;
The Affordable Care Act is succeeding, and the nation is taking note.

Thanks to the ACA, Americans are enjoying newfound health and economic security and the peace of mind that comes with it. Instead of vowing to replace the nation's health care law, Speaker Boehner, Leader Cantor, and House Republicans should end their obsessive and fruitless obstructionism and work with Democrats to strengthen the law.
