A new poll today from the Brookings Institution and nonpartisan Public Religion Research Institute underscores that over 60 percent of Americans believe undocumented immigrants should be granted a pathway to citizenship.  Here are some additional facts:

  • Nearly 60 percent of Americans believe new immigrants strengthen our country;
  • And, along party lines:
    • 70 percent of Democratic voters support a pathway to citizenship;
    • Over 50 percent of Republican voters support a pathway to citizenship; and,
    • Over 60 percent of independent voters support a pathway to citizenship.

This new poll is yet another example of House Republicans ignoring the will and voice of the American people.  How many polls demonstrating the overwhelming support for immigration reform and a pathway to citizenship will it take for Speaker Boehner, Leader Cantor, and House Republicans to act in a commonsense and bipartisan manner?
