New Poll: Americans Oppose Republican Strategy To End ACA Tax Credits
March 2, 2015
A new Hart Research and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) poll released today highlights significant problems for Speaker Boehner and Congressional Republicans who are fixated on dismantling and undermining the Affordable Care Act:
- 61 percent of Americans like the tax credits available in the exchanges, which make health coverage affordable, including:
o 79 percent of Democrats;
o 54 percent of independents; and,
o 49 percent of Republicans.
- An overwhelming 71 percent of Americans want the tax credits to be available in all fifty states;
- 63 percent would object to limiting the credits to just the sixteen states with state-based exchanges, including:
o 74 percent of Democrats;
o 57 percent of independents; and,
o 56 percent of Republicans.
- 59 percent of Americans feel less favorabletoward Speaker Boehner and GOP congressional leaders when told they side with the challengers in the King v. Burwell case.
AsThe Hillsaid, "the new figures reveal a major governing challenge for Republicans, who...remain divided on a strategy to prevent millions of people from losing their coverage and blaming the GOP."
