Pelosi: Administration Must Stop Abusing Classification Process About Iraq Policy

October 16, 2007
Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today on the House voting today to approve a resolution sponsored by Congressman Henry Waxman that raises objections to the Bush Administration's withholding of information relating to corruption in Iraq.

'Despite evidence of official corruption in Iraq that the State Department's Iraq coordinator has characterized as 'real, endemic and pernicious,' the Bush Administration continues to deny the American people the facts about how corruption finances the insurgency and threatens our troops.

'The Iraq war has its roots in false information.  Congress must now insist that the Administration stop abusing the classification process to conceal information and prevent public scrutiny.  Today's resolution again demonstrates that the House of Representatives will demand full accountability from the Bush Administration in all aspects of the war in Iraq.'
