Pelosi: The American People Have Lost Confidence in Bush's Open-Ended War

March 19, 2007

Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on President Bush's remarks on the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq:

'Today, as this war enters its fifth year, President Bush continues to ask for an open-ended commitment to this war by our brave troops and the American people.  Democrats offer a new direction for Iraq: a plan to hold President Bush and the Iraqi government accountable, protect our troops, support our veterans' health care, and begin to responsibly redeploy our troops.

'The American people have lost confidence in President Bush's plan for a war without end in Iraq.  That failed approach has been rejected by the voters in our nation, and it will be rejected by the Congress.'
