Pelosi: Americans Want Congress and Administration to Take Action to Jumpstart Our Economy

January 10, 2008
Washington, D.C. -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today after Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke signaled that the Fed will cut interest rates in the coming weeks to help strengthen the economy:

'It is welcome news that Chairman Bernanke is signaling that the Fed will cut interest rates because the economy is slowing.  American families are facing rising energy and grocery prices, exploding health care costs or no coverage at all, and losing value in their homes or actually losing their homes to the sub-prime mortgage crisis.

'Americans want Congress and the Administration to take action to jumpstart our economy; Democrats look forward to working in a bipartisan way in the coming weeks.  We will also try to find common ground with the President on how we can provide a New Direction for our economy.'
