Pelosi Announces Appointments to National Commission on Hunger
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced today she will name Professor of Pediatrics at Boston University Dr. Deborah Frank, and Founder and CEO of Share Our Strength Bill Shore to the National Commission on Hunger.
"Food insecurity has no place in the wealthiest nation on Earth," said Leader Pelosi. "That any child in America faces gnawing hunger is an outrage; a moral scandal that cries out for action. As the National Commission on Hunger develops its report, Dr. Deborah Frank and Bill Shore will bring experience, dedication and urgency to this critical challenge. It is my privilege to name these two anti-hunger leaders to the Commission."
Established in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2014, the ten member commission is charged with developing a report on new strategies to solve the problem of hunger and food insecurity in America. The commission will also examine ways to partner with the faith, nonprofit, and business community to solve this pernicious national problem.
Dr. Deborah A. Frank is a long-time leader in children's health research and advocacy. She currently serves as Founder and Principle Investigator of Children's HealthWatch, Director of the Grow Clinic For Children at the Boston Medical Center, and Professor of Child Health and Well-Being at Boston University School of Medicine. A summa cum laude graduate of Radcliffe College, she received her M.D. from Harvard Medical School.
For three decades, Bill Shore's national non-profit Share Our Strength has fought to end childhood hunger in America. Today, he continues to serve as CEO of Share Our Strength, and Chairman of Community Wealth Partners. A graduate of University of Pennsylvania and George Washington University Law School, Shore served as chief of staff to former Senator Robert Kerrey, and later as director of the Timberland Company.
