Pelosi Announces Departure of Evangeline George, Names Caroline Behringer Deputy Communications Director

June 21, 2016
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced today that she has named Caroline Behringer as her new Deputy Communications Director.  Behringer comes to the Leader's Press Office from the House Ways and Means Committee, where she has served for two years, most recently as Communications Director, under Ranking Member Sandy Levin.  Behringer holds a Bachelor's degree in Spanish Language and International Studies from American University.

"As the Communications Director for the Ways and Means Committee, Caroline has shown she has the talent and the savvy to advance a strong message on behalf of a diverse and dynamic group of Democratic Members," said Leader Pelosi. "With her experience in the public and non-profit sector, Caroline is well-equipped to help House Democrats communicate our message in a way that connects, engages and mobilizes hard-working Americans across the nation."

Behringer replaces Evangeline George, who departs for a private sector position in Atlanta.  George, a native of Marietta, Georgia, served on Pelosi's staff since 2009 – with roles including research, rapid response and press secretary, prior to being named Deputy Communications Director in 2014.  George also served as Communications Director to Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney's congressional campaign in the 2012 cycle.

"Evangeline's focus, experience and strategic vision have been an invaluable part of our communications team," said Leader Pelosi. "Evangeline's resourcefulness on the road, her instincts as a spokeswoman, and her well-honed talent for building successful press events have consistently strengthened House Democrats' message for hard-working families.  She helped Democrats take our ‘When Women Succeed, America Succeeds' agenda across the nation.  We are sorry to see Evangeline go, but we wish her all the best in this new opportunity in her home state near her beloved family."
