Pelosi Announces Steering Committee Parliamentarian, Recommendations for Committee Assignments

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced today that the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee selected Congressman Jared Polis to be Parliamentarian of the Steering and Policy Committee and approved a series of new and returning Members of Congress to House committee seats in the 114th Congress.  The full Democratic Caucus will consider these recommendations for approval on Wednesday.

"Congressman Jared Polis has shown himself to be an energetic and forward-looking leader in our Caucus," said Leader Pelosi. "Congressman Polis has earned the confidence of his colleagues and we look to seeing his contributions as Parliamentarian of the Steering and Policy Committee."

"The Democratic Members recommended to the Energy and Commerce and Financial Services Committee today embody our commitment to innovation, opportunity and the success of middle-class families," continued Pelosi.  "We look forward to having their energy, intelligence and ideas at work in their new committees – creating jobs, investing in clean energy, and building an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy and well-connected."

Energy and Commerce

The following members were appointed to the Energy and Commerce Committee:

  • Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke of New York
  • Congressman David Loebsack of Iowa
  • Congressman Kurt Schrader of Oregon
  • Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy of Massachusetts
  • Congressman Tony Cárdenas of California

Financial Services

The following member was appointed to the Financial Services Committee:

  • Congressman Juan Vargas of California
