Pelosi: 'Our Budget Begins to Set Us In a New Direction'

December 17, 2007
Washington, D.C. -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement tonight after the House passed the FY2008 Omnibus Appropriations bill:

'Democrats began this year with a fiscally responsible budget plan that balanced over five years, cut taxes for middle-class families, and began to reinvest in education, job training, health care, and energy independence for the American people.

'Despite the President's shortsighted opposition to these investments, the budget bill we passed tonight ends seven years of failed Bush Administration economic policies that are out of touch with the concerns of the American people.  Our budget begins to set us in a New Direction by investing in health care and medical research, education from K-12 to college students, law enforcement and Homeland Security, and renewable energy.  These are the priorities of the American people.'
