Pelosi Comments on Bipartisan Congressional Leaders' Meeting with Paulson, Bernanke, and Cox

September 18, 2008
Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi and bipartisan House and Senate leaders met with Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, and Securities and Exchange Comission Chairman Christopher Cox tonight.  Below are the Speaker's brief remarks at a press availability following their meeting:

"Good evening.  We just had what I believe was a very productive meeting where we heard from the Administration and from the chairman of the Fed, an initiative to help resolve the financial crisis in our country.

"Our purpose is to do that and in doing so, to insulate Main Street from Wall Street and recognize our responsibility to the taxpayer, to the consumer, and to the people all across our country.

"With that, I want to yield to the distinguished leader from the Senate, Mr. Reid."
