Pelosi Joins Amicus Brief on Texas Reproductive Rights Case Before Supreme Court

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi has joined a bicameral amicus brief of 157 Members of Congress in the case of Whole Woman's Health v. Cole, currently before the Supreme Court. The brief calls on the justices to uphold Roe v. Wade and reject Texas's efforts to undermine a woman's constitutionally protected right to make her own health decisions. Leader Pelosi released the following statement:

"The amicus brief filed by Members of Congress urges the Supreme Court to reject Texas politicians' appalling attempt to deny women their constitutional right to make their own reproductive health decisions.

"Today, American women see a brazen and concerted Republican campaign to dismantle their constitutional right to comprehensive health care. We have witnessed outrageous attempts to eliminate women's access to contraceptive coverage through the courts and unconscionable efforts to allow employers to meddle in their employees' most intimate reproductive decisions. House Republicans have even decided they have the right to waste taxpayer money on a Select Committee to Attack Women's Health.

"For over forty years, the Supreme Court has consistently ruled that a woman's health decisions must be her own, in consultation with her family, her physician, and her faith. I am confident the Supreme Court will uphold Roe v. Wade and four decades of Supreme Court precedent by striking down this unconstitutional Texas law."
