Pelosi Reaction to Bush's Report on Consumer Imports
'Today's report by the Bush Administration on the safety of children's toys, food, and medicines falls far short of the action needed to ensure our children are safe.
'Parents and grandparents deserve the peace of mind of knowing that the Christmas presents they place under the tree are not contaminated with lead. At dinnertime, parents should only have to worry about their children eating their vegetables, not the possibility of them eating tainted spinach.
'While the Bush Administration has been asleep at the wheel on child safety, Democrats in Congress have been working to give America's product and food safety agencies more tools and greater authority to keep unsafe products off of store shelves, out of American's medicine cabinets, and out of the hands of children.
'Americans deserve better than another half-hearted effort by the Bush Administration, particularly when the health and safety of America's children are involved.'
