Pelosi Sends Letter to Speaker Ryan Calling for United Front Against Russian Cyber-Attacks

Washington, D.C. – Today, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi sent a letter to Speaker Ryan calling for Republicans to join Democrats in presenting a united front against Russia's attempts to use sophisticated cyber-attacks to undermine the sanctity of America's electoral process. In the letter, Leader Pelosi urges Speaker Ryan to join her in opposing the use of any documents from Russian cyber-attacks by the campaign arms of the House Democrats or House Republicans.

As Leader Pelosi writes, "Russia's cyber-attack is an unprecedented assault on the sanctity of our democratic process. We must come together to say that defending our democracy from Russia's meddling is more important than any advantage or disadvantage in this election."

"Democrats and Republicans must present a united front in the face of Russia's attempts to tamper with the will of the American people," Leader Pelosi continues.

Dear Speaker Ryan,

As you know, House Democrats and the DCCC have been the victims of a large-scale and sophisticated Russian cyber-attack.

Russia's insidious efforts to tamper with democratic elections are already well-documented throughout Europe, in Ukraine, the Republic of Georgia, and even Germany. They have also been known to doctor the documents they release.

Russia's cyber-attack is an unprecedented assault on the sanctity of our democratic process. We must come together to say that defending our democracy from Russia's meddling is more important than any advantage or disadvantage in this election.

It is my hope that you will join me in opposing the NRCC and the DCCC from using any documents from Russian criminal cyber-attacks in this campaign.

Democrats and Republicans must present a united front in the face of Russia's attempts to tamper with the will of the American people.

I hope that we can discuss this important matter as Congress returns. Thank you for your consideration.
