Pelosi Spokesman: 50th ACA Repeal Proposal More Evidence of GOP’s Dangerous, Harmful Agenda

February 25, 2014

Washington, D.C. – Drew Hammill, spokesman for Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, released the following statement today after a new report from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office and Joint Committee on Taxation showed that House Republicans' bill to change the definition of a full-time work week under the Affordable Care Act would force roughly one million workers to lose their private employer-based insurance, increase the deficit by $74 billion over 10 years, and increase the number of uninsured.  This proposal will mark the 50th vote to repeal or undermine health care reform.

"Today's report presents more evidence of Republicans' dangerous, harmful, and hollow agenda for the American people.  The facts are simple: this bill achieves the polar opposite of Congressional Republicans' stated goals by driving up the deficit and driving down the ranks of the insured.

"The 50th time is not the charm for House Republicans.  Taking the 50th vote to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act won't create jobs, won't strengthen the middle class, won't reduce our deficit, and won't grow our economy.  By all measures, this latest Republican proposal is nothing more than an exercise in futility, but worse – because if it actually became law, it would actively weaken the hand of America's workers and exacerbate our fiscal challenges."
