Pelosi Spokesman: Speaker Boehner Can’t Hide the GOP’s Do-Nothing Agenda
Washington, D.C. – Drew Hammill, spokesman for Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, released the following statement today in response to the Republicans' weekly radio address, delivered by Speaker John Boehner:
"Speaker Boehner can try to paper over the Republican record, but he can't run away from the facts. House Republicans have next-to-nothing to show for their time in the majority, aside from failed leadership, debilitating dysfunction, and a culture of crisis.
"Consider what Americans just heard from the Speaker of the House. Nowhere did he explain why Republicans refuse to enact comprehensive immigration reform or why Republicans have wasted so much time with 50 votes to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act. Not once did he tell us when Republicans will allow a vote to increase the minimum wage or extend unemployment insurance, or why Republicans have failed to produce a single bill to create jobs.
"The Speaker can deliver as many platitudes as he wants; no amount of rhetoric can hide the failures of this Republican Congress. Doing nothing is not an agenda – it's a disgrace. It's time for Republicans to cooperate with Democrats to put people to work, lift up and expand the middle class, and build an economy that works for everyone."
