Pelosi Spokesman Statement on Five Year Anniversary of Republicans’ Lack of Credible Health Reform Proposal
Washington, D.C. – Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, released the following statement as House Republican leaders gathered for a meeting to develop an alternative to the Affordable Care Act:
"Five years later, House Republicans are still struggling to come up with a credible alternative to the Affordable Care Act. While House Republicans continue their five-year-long quest to develop a meaningful health care proposal, the Affordable Care Act has enrolled more than 4 million Americans in the Marketplaces, enabled 3.1 million young people to stay on their parents' plans, and secured coverage for millions more through the Medicaid expansion.
"Instead of actually seeking to address the plight of the uninsured or small businesses who were facing skyrocketing health costs, House Republicans are prepping their 50th vote to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act. The proposal would force roughly one million workers to lose their insurance, increase the deficit by $74 billion, and increase the number of uninsured.
"The American people are tired of the agenda of repeal, they are tired of the scaremongering and the dishonest and trumped up horror stories that don't stand up to any level of scrutiny, and they are tired of seeing no proactive agenda whatsoever from House Republicans."
