Pelosi Spokesman Statement on Republican Benghazi Chief Counsel Statements
May 16, 2016
Washington, D.C. – Drew Hammill, spokesman for Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, released the following statement on a letter from Ranking Member Elijah E. Cummings of the Select Committee on Benghazi and Ranking Member Adam Smith of the Armed Services Committee highlighting statements by Benghazi Chairman Trey Gowdy's former Chief Counsel, including that "nothing could have affected what occurred in Benghazi."
"With every day that passes, the Benghazi Committee's contempt for the truth becomes more blatant," said Hammill. "As Leader McCarthy openly admitted and as Chairman Gowdy's Chief Counsel's statements make clear, the Committee has no interest in the facts of that tragic night, only in using taxpayer dollars to fabricate a brazen smear campaign against Hillary Clinton.
"The Republican Select Committee to Attack Hillary Clinton has now wasted two years and nearly $7 million in taxpayer funds retreading the same facts as all the other reviews," Hammill continued. "This openly political factory of falsehoods should be shut down immediately."
