Pelosi Statement on Appeals Court Ruling in Jefferson Case
August 3, 2007
Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today on a ruling issued today by the U.S. Court of Appeals that when the FBI raided Congressman William Jefferson's congressional office in May 2006, it violated the Constitution.
'The court's decision restates the central role of the separation of powers, of checks and balances in our system. I look forward to working with the Justice Department on an appropriate protocol for access to Members' offices when that is necessary. No Member should think that he or she is above the law or that his or her office is off limits if they are the subject of a criminal investigation.'
