Pelosi Statement on Australian Prime Minister Rudd's Visit to U.S. Capitol

Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi was joined by Republican leader John Boehner today to welcome Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to the U.S. Capitol.  Below are her remarks:

"Good afternoon.  I'm honored to be joined by the distinguished Republican Leader, Mr. Boehner, in welcoming the Prime Minister of Australia to the Capitol of the United States.  We look forward to our conversation with the Prime Minister as two countries which have a very strong relationship and a strong friendship on top of that.

"I look forward to hearing his views on initiatives in Australia on climate change and of course, our first and most important topic always is the security of our countries - the war on terror - and issues that relate to the safety of the people of our two countries.

"Welcome to the Capitol, Mr. Prime Minister.  We're honored you're here and I'd like to yield to Mr. Boehner."
