Pelosi Statement on Congressman Towns' Decision Not to Seek Re-election
Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after Congressman Edolphus Towns announced that he would not seek re-election to the House of Representatives this year:
"Congressman Edolphus Towns has served the people of Brooklyn, the families and youth of New York's 10th district, and the Congress of the United States with distinction. Throughout his career, he has worked to improve the lives of others - whether expanding health care access for seniors, increasing opportunities for young people, strengthening minority-owned businesses, or defending the middle class. He has proven himself a dedicated public servant.
'In his district, Congressman Towns delivered for his neighbors and invested in jobs and economic opportunity for local workers. In the committee room, he led the charge to root out waste in government, and worked to protect and enhance Medicare and Medicaid for millions of working families. On the floor of the House, Congressman Towns never forgot his roots as a social worker, fighting for the less fortunate and offering a powerful voice for justice.
'We wish him and his family the best in their future endeavors.'
