Pelosi Statement on Congresswoman Kathy Hochul's Appointment to the Homeland Security Committee

June 2, 2011

Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the appointment of Congresswoman Kathy Hochul to the House Committee on Homeland Security:

"As elected leaders, our first responsibility is to ensure the safety of the American people. We have no more solemn and critical obligation as Members of Congress, and our newest colleague, Congresswoman Kathy Hochul, will add her voice, experience, and commitment to the task of protecting our families and our communities on the House Homeland Security Committee.

"In the private sector, Congresswoman Hochul worked as an attorney on homeland security issues. Combined with her strong constituent service record as an exemplary local elected official, she will be an effective and independent voice on this vital committee. We look forward to working with her to keep Americans safe and our nation secure."
